League Rules
League Philosophy:
This is a gentleman’s league that has zero tolerance for any aggressive play or behavior that would increase the chances of injury to any player or official.
Ground Rules (Updated 22 Oct 24):
Kanata Roosters follow the Hockey Canada rules except for the following which take presendence:
- 1. No slapshots (i.e. windup above the knee results in a whistle, face-off in offending team’s zone)
- 2. No checking or “aggressive” body contact
- 3. In the event of a penalty:
- 4. Misconducts & Suspensions:
- Misconduct results in 10 minute penalty
- Game Misconduct: expulsion from game,
- 1st offense = 1 game suspension
- 2nd = 2 games + review
- A major penalty results in expulsion from game and a minimum 1 game suspension, and a league review
- Abuse of Official: Game Misconduct. Can be increased to 2 game suspension after league review
- Continued undesirable behavior may result in expulsion from the league
- 3 minor penalties results in expulsion from the game, and a 1 game suspension (double minor = 2 penalties)
- 5. 1st time Offensive player called for being in the crease: face-off outside blueline & warning
- Subsequent times Offensive player called for being in the crease: Goaltender interference penalty
- 6. No red line when invoking 2-line pass rule
- 7. High stick on puck is immediate whistle, face-off in offending team’s defensive zone (no penalty)
- 8. Icing is called from far blue line
Tie-Breaker Rules:
- Wins: Most total wins among the tied teams
- Head-to-Head Record: Most points in games against each other among the tied teams.
- Goal Differential: Using the total goals scored during the regular season, the greater positive differential between goals for and against among the tied teams.
- Most Goals For: Using the total goals scored during the regular season, the greater number of goals for among the tied teams.
- Least Goals Against: Using the total goals scored during the regular season, the fewer number of goals against among the tied teams.
Spares:
- Maximum of 2 spares, must be same caliber as missing regular players, 10 players max
- No A Level spares during playoffs
